GLOSSARY
rhetoric: language or speech used to persuade the audience to care about or agree with a text; can be approached differently depending on the field and audience (i.e. scientific rhetoric, political rhetoric, etc)
epideictic rhetoric: rhetoric appealing to values and morals, persuading audience to take on same beliefs as writer
deliberative rhetoric: deciding on courses of action based on imperfect knowledge of the future
forensic/judicial rhetoric: what happened and why based on imperfect knowledge of the past
discourse: communication within a field to promote sharing of ideas and knowledge
Paramedic Method for Sentences:
- who is the intended subject (doer)
- what is being done (doing)
- eliminate unnecessary prepositions
- reduce nominalization- making a verb into a noun, need another verb-- need to know who's doing what
- get rid of unnecessary adjectives
